PRE-DEPARTURE APPLICATION QUESTIONS

1. Which application do I fill out?

Please fill out the application that correlates with your area of study.

All Medical, Dental, DGP, and Veterinary students, please fill out a Medicine and Other Application

If you are studying a Health Science or Allied Health discipline, please fill out a Nursing and Allied Health Application (this includes optometry, paramedicine)

2. Who do I contact regarding accommodation?

Please contact the Campus Life and Facilities Team regarding any accommodation or invoicing queries at drh-accom@unimelb.edu.au or 0418242180

Business hours are Monday-Friday from 9-5

If you have locked yourself out or need urgent help after hours, please call security services 24/7 at 03 8344 6666

3. How do I accept my offer of accommodation?

Once you have recieved an email from us with an offer of accommodation, please log into the Rural Living Portal to accept your offer.

Click on the Application tab in the menu bar (either Medicine or Nursing and Allied Health applications tab)

Select the green application and follow the prompts to accept the offer!

4. I need to cancel my accommodation after accepting my offer, what do I do?

As per our student accommodation policy, cancellations must occur 7 days prior to your check-in date. No refund will be given if accommodation has been paid and a cancellation occurs 14 days prior to checking in. Only in exceptional circumstances will a refund occur.

5. I want to apply for accommodation in Ballarat but the only room preference available is Creswick, how do I proceed?

Unfortunately, our student accommodation in Ballarat is currently at full capacity and therefore we only give the option to select Creswick. The University of Melbourne's Creswick Campus is around a 20-minute drive from Ballarat Health Services.

We will still process your eligibility for a Going Rural Health Support Package so please complete your application and one of our team members will be in contact shortly.

If you are seeking accommodation, you will have to contact Creswick Campus Residential Services directly via the following email address creswick-accom@unimelb.edu.au in order to secure a room.

Alternatively, please contact Ballarat Health Services for on-site accommodation at Colleen.O'Brien@bhs.org.au 

GOING RURAL HEALTH QUESTIONS

6. Who do I contact regarding Going Rural Health student support scheme?

Please contact the Going Rural Health Team at going-ruralhealth@unimelb.edu.au or 03 8344 6791. Business hours are Monday-Friday from 9-5

Please contact them directly regarding your eligibilty or questions about your application. Proof of enrolment or proof of domestic status attachments should be sent directly to the Going Rural Health email.

7. I only want to apply for a Going Rural Health Support Package but do not require accommodation, do I still need to fill out an application?

Yes, all Nursing and Allied Health students applying for a Going Rural Health (GRH) Support Package must fill out an application. Please select 'Bursary Only' when submitting your application.

If you are sent an offer of accommodation after submitting your bursary application but are not requiring accommodation, please reply to drh-accom@unimelb.edu.au and state that you do not require accommodation.

If the application does not ask for your room preference and only gives you the option of a "post-placement bursary," then the Going Rural Health team will process your eligibility for a support package and be in contact shortly.

ACCOMMODATION QUESTIONS

8. What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in time: After 2 pm

Check-out time: Strictly 10 am

Once you have accepted your offer of accommodation, you will recieve an email with check-in details. Accommodation keys will be placed into a lockbox accessible 24/7 with a code sent to your email.

9. How do I access the Wifi?

All sites are equipped with Wifi through the network "Eduroam" Please use your university email and log in details to access the network.

10. How do I report a maintenance request?

All maintenance requests can be lodged directly through our Rural Living Portal portal. Once you login to the portal, please press the "Maintenance" tab to lodge a request. Once you have lodged a request, please check back into the portal to track the status of your request.

"Actioned" = One of our team members has actioned your request to a contractor and will be dealing with the matter shortly

"Awaiting Parts" = We are still waiting for parts and will complete your request shortly

"Completed" = Your request has been completed

11. How do I view my transactions / pay for my stay?

'Once you have accepted your offer of accommodation, you will recieve an email with your attached invoice. To view all transactions, please log into the Rural Living Portal, click on left side menu and press the 'My Account' tab.

All payments are done directly through the Rural Living Portal via credit or debit card in the 'My Account' tab.

BPAY, Cash and Direct Transfers are not accepted forms of payment.

12. Am I allowed to have a pet in my accommodation?

No, unfortunately do to the nature of DRH accommdation, students are prohibited from having pets in DRH accommodation.

13. Can I get a refund if I do not use my room over weekends?

As per our student accommodations policy, all bookings are made from the start to the end of placement. It is up to students if they wish to utilise their rooms over weekends or not. We do therefore not make split bookings or issue refunds for weekends.

14. Am I allowed to smoke on site?

Department of Rural Health campuses and accommodation sites, in line with Univrsity of Melbourne policies, are smoke free sites. This means smoking in buildings and on University grounds is not permitted. Smoking includes all tobacco products and vaping products. Please exit the university premise if you wish to smoke. Thank you for your understanding.

15. Are visitors allowed in the accommodation?

Residents are allowed visitors and overnight guests by approval only. Please log into the Rural Living Portal and complete a visitor application two days prior to the visit. Visitors and overnight guests must upload proof of identification such as a licence or passport.
